Wha???? Is this the same Paradise Garage as the gay disco where Larry Levan held court??? I never knew rock shows were ever held there! Thanks Karate, you've given me my mindblower for the day.

Yep...the one & the same. Glad to have blown your mind. I've actually seen footage of the Contortions & Teenage Jesus from the gig, but have never heard much about it or read anything. Pretty cool stuff.

Yes, that's the same Paradise Garage. I was at that gig, as a callow youth of 18, on my first visit to NYC. I shot some Super 8 footage of it, along with other tidbits. Some day I'll find someone who can digitize it so that i can post it...if I remember correctly, the TJJ line-up was LL, Jim Sclavunos on bass, and Bradly (not Bradley) Field (not Fields) on drum (not drums). I think that was the only time I saw the Voidoids (which is not as much fun to say while eating squid as "He saw the Voidoids fifty times!") I also caught DNA and Rastakwair (later Rosa Yemen) at the Kitchen, and an evening of short pieces at Jeffrey Lohn's loft that included Lohn, Branca, and Tim Wright, pre-DNA. A fun week.

that's for posting the poster - and thanks serena for mentioning that you were there... you reminded me that i saw TJJ in London the night Elvis Presley died. I met Bradly when i first moved to nyc in 1987. he was working for Richard Hell's girlfriend at the time (amanda). Bradly was soon to succumb to Aids. I was sad to hear of his passing. I always liked a drummer with one drum and one cymbal. in London, he played standing up. I remember being knocked out by them. If I close my eyes, I can still see them all in a line. In sillouhette.
