Bobby Robinson memorial service tomorrow

With the recent passing of Harlem's Bobby Robinson, New York lost probably one of the few remaining true entrepreneurial mavericks of the dawning of the music business as we came to know it. For those interested in music history, I suggest reading Jeremiah's post today which focuses on Bobby's Harlem-based shop, Bobby's Happy House, which he also wrote about back in 2007. I also suggest reading the NY Times obit about the man: "Bobby Robinson liked to recall how it all began: with him, a World War II veteran, sitting on a fire hydrant in front of a hat shop in Harlem in 1946. Hundreds of people (potential customers?) walked by." Continued here.

For those who are interested, a memorial service for Bobby Robinson will take place tomorrow, Thursday, January 13, at the United House of Prayer for All People, 2320 Frederick Douglass Boulevard (Eighth Avenue) @ 125th Street.

The viewing is from 3:00 - 6:00 pm, with the service to follow.
