Cultural events of note - B-Sides, Broken Hearts, tribal mask paintings, and APB

What can I say? I have very creative friends. Here are a couple of events I wanted to let you know about taking place soon by a couple of FOB© (friends of the blog).

First up is Liquid Liquid member, Dennis Young. For the last couple of years he's been working on paintings based on tribal mask designs. In tandem with artist Andrew Riss, Dennis will be showing his paintings at the Bank Left Art Space in Teaneck, NJ, from September 10-26. The opening will be on Sept. 10 from 6-9PM at the gallery. Visit the gallery website or their page on Facebook. Click on the image at left for more info.

Next is prolific writer, blogger, Mets fan, and Bruce Springsteen fan extraordinaire, Caryn Rose. Caryn has her debut novel out entitled B-Sides & Broken Hearts, and she'll be launching the book with an event in Brooklyn at the Soft Spot on August 25. For all of the info, visit the event Facebook page, and get out there & support your local writers!

Check out a preview & buy a copy of B-Sides and Broken Hearts at Amazon. Visit the official book wesbite here. Here's a short video Caryn put together that'll give you a good idea of what you're in for:

Lastly, Scottish punk-funk band, APB, who are playing the Highline Ballroom this Saturday, (with support by Ivan Julian), will be appearing on Evan "Funk" Davies' WFMU show on Wednesday between 9:00PM and midnight. Tune in to 91.1FM or listen online. Here's their perennial favorite "Shoot You Down":

OK, I got over my Springsteen fixation in the 70's but the Mets and Liquid Liquid and APD in the *same* post? Work pinball in there and you'd have my complete life in a nutshell.
