Very good, not great, book chock full of facts & anecdotes. The main problem was that the whole thing was a bit dry as a reading experience and I found myself pushing to finish the 500+ pages. If you're interested in reggae this is a good place to get your history however it will be a mild challenge.

Is this the book that originally came out under the title Bass Culture? I couldn't believe it when Lloyd told me that he couldn't find a US publisher because of the title! And yeah, it's a lotta words, but it's also one-stop shopping for reggae history.
Course, I'm a fanatic when it comes to the pre-digital stuff, so do consider that.
Thats right, Ed. It was Bass Culture in the UK. I guess the US publisher thought it wasn't obvious enough for US readers!
Especially with the photo of the bunch of dreads hanging out in front of the giant speakers with spliffs hanging off their lips (I just unpacked my copy yesterday).
Probably thought it was about fresh-water fish.
I'm pounding my forehead with the palm of my hand right now...stupid, stupid, stupid!
