Friday Ephemera - new Christie's auction
Unfortunately, Christie's shut down their Pop Culture department here in NYC sometime last year. However, the same department in Christie's of London seems to be going strong as evidenced by a new auction that will be taking place on June 24. Over 300 lots are now available for viewing on the auction house's website. View the eCatalog (or eCatalogue if you're in the UK) here.
"Christie's Popular Culture: Rock & Pop memorabilia auction, taking place on June 24th in London is bursting with objects to cater for Music Memorabilia collectors of all eras and tastes, from the music of the early 1960's through to the present day.
The main highlights include the first part of Brad & Diane Rodgers collection of Who memorabilia that includes Townshend and Entwistle owned guitars, rare posters, sales awards, signed items, artwork and more; and an original John Lennon signed double self-portrait caricature drawing produced at the Bed In for Peace, Montreal 1969."
"The sale consists of over 300 lots, including original hand written lyrics by David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and Jimi Hendrix; guitars played by; The Sex Pistols' Steve Jones, Marc Bolan, Eric Clapton, and George Harrison; a selection of sales awards from band's including: Guns & Roses, The Who, Queen and The Beatles; the first known recording of Oasis in concert; a selection of original stationery from the wedding of Marilyn Manson and Dita VonTeese; an extensive collection of original Punk posters, a variety of Yellow Submarine animation cels, numerous rare photographs, pieces of original artwork, and an extensive variety of signed items, and much, much more."
P.S. Attention Christie's copy editor - I never knew that Marilyn Monroe and Dita Von Teese were ever married.
