Psychedelic Furs in Bearsville NY

What with Wire announcing a new album, Killing Joke with a new album and North American tour dates, the Sisters of Mercy announcing new dates for their 30th anniversary, and even a new song from the Cars, many so called 80's bands have never really stopped, but they seem to be emerging again, after many years, in a big way.

As mentioned last month, the Psychedelic Furs played a couple of warm up shows here in the northeast before leaving for the UK & Europe. I saw them last night at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, NY, and they were way beyond any meager expectations I had. Richard Butler performs with such a comfortable joy it's hard not to go along with him. Hitting the stage promptly at 9:00PM, the first set was their track by track performance of the Talk Talk Talk album. Following a short break they came back and performed a best of set which concluded with an absolutely barn burning encore of "India." Like I said, WAY beyond any expectations I had. It also helped that the Bearsville has a capacity of around 400. If the Furs are playing near you I wholeheartedly encourage you to go.

And speaking of "eighties" bands, click on over to This Ain't the Summer of Love for a write up & a whole lot of video of a recent Jason & the Scorchers show in Minneapolis.
