Blue Lines, Massive Attack's stunning 1991 debut album, is reissued today in a couple of different formats. I originally bought this album on cassette when it came out (my car had a cassette deck at the time and cassettes were the shit!). I literally played it over and over probably a couple of dozen times. I couldn't stop! If you do not own this your collection is seriously lacking...
Massive Attack were the first of just a few artists (Renegade Soundwave, and Andrew Weatherall also come to mind) that were able to seamlessly mix several genres of music in a masterful and natural way. Funk, soul, dub, hip hop, punk, electronic...its all here in some form or another. Go get it, and learn...as good as some of their subsequent releases were, to me Massive Attack has never equaled this release. Buy it here.
The reissue is available on CD, digital download, and as a deluxe box set that contains the CD, DVD with 96K/24 bit high resolution audio files, the album split over two 180g vinyl LPs, and the original 24″ x 18″ Blue Lines promo poster.
Massive Attack are currently working on their follow up to 2010′s Heligoland.
