This week's edition of the Nightclubbing column features The Suburbs - new wave superstars from Minneapolis at a time when most folks were still quite infatuated with what was coming out of New York, London and Los Angeles, never mind culturally rich outposts like Athens GA or Minneapolis MN.
New York and London were the first cities to feel the heartbeat of punk,
then bands started springing up in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Like a
contagion, the new music spread and mutated from basement to garage,
from Athens, Ga., to Santa Cruz. Continued here.
Watch their performance of “Music For Boys” from 1980 at Danceteria below.
As always, be sure to visit Go Nightclubbing.
