Everything Louder Than Everything Else, Or Why Blockbuster Blows

In order to raise some funds for some money I'll owe the IRS come April, I've gone back on eBay with a renewed vigor to raise the dough. Today I put up my entire Motorhead collection of about 25 LP's, EP's, and picture discs...there's some great stuff there - the leather version of No Remorse, a full band autographed copy of Rock 'n Roll, and funniest, the so called "Christmas Edition" of the Ace of Spades single. The only thing that makes it a Christmas version is the band on the cover dressed in Santa suits with of course, Lemmy giving us the finger. Hilarious, but also strangely valuable...if I find the right buyer. It looks like this:

Last night in some strange attempt to get a dose of meta physics, or quantum physics, or something. we rented What the Bleep Do We Know from Blockbuster, where we haven't been for probably 2 years.

Well, of course the big development in the last 2 years, if not more, has been DVD's. And now they make these 2-sided DVD's. So of course going to a place like Blockbuster, getting the last copy they have available which has probably been handled by a bunch of people like a freakin' frisbie, was bound to not work...and of course it didn't. The first thing that gave it away was the tiny scratch I saw before putting the disc into my machine. About 20 minutes into the movie, wouldn't ya know, it freezes. So we take it back, and of course they don't give refunds, only credit. And we're told this by someone who can barely speak English. (Just when did double negatives become ok???!!! Jesus, it's really depressing & embarrassing...not only that, but it's really the norm, isn't it?)

"We don't give no refunds, just credit."

"So that means you'll give me a refund?"

"No...we don't give no refunds..."

"Oh...Never mind!"

A luxury problem, I know...After searching for another movie to watch, we took the fucking credit. Man, there are a lot of lousy movies out there, and they're ALL available at Blockbuster.

And that, as they say, was that. The less I go into these sort of places, the better.

So we came home, and thanks to Time Warner cable and movies on demand, we were able to watch a flawless showing of Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy. I never read the book, but I had an idea of the story line, and it was definitely on my list. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I think the thing that really hurt it's chances of a better word of mouth was that there was absolutely zero chemistry between the male & female lead...which should've been higher on the priority list if you know what I mean. So that sort of killed it. But otherwise it was a lot of fun.

If that doesn't sound like tepid, non-commital, reccomendation, I don't know what does!

Over and out...p.s. the Raiders won a good one today on the road...alright!
