Just in time for Halloween...the new wave/goth/alternative/modern rock equivalent to the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac...a song that not much more can be said about - Bela Lugosi Is Dead by Bauhaus. This is the type of song that people who know otherwise nothing about the genre or history know. At least that's my perception. The single looked like this (as if you didn't know):
You knew that, didn't you?
Anyway, I always thought Bauhaus was pretty fucking good, and possibly underrated in the history of everything. Especially in light of everything that came out after they broke up...I didn't pay much attention to Peter Murphy solo stuff, but I loved Tones On Tail, and even Love & Rockets had their moments. Inventive, melodic, always interesting...besides the cover songs, they never really sounded like anyone else. And although the covers could be a bit xeroxed, throughout it all, they displayed exquisite taste in covers - T.Rex, Brian Eno, and the Temptations to name a few. Their last album, Burning From the Inside, was one of my favorites from the era.
You know, now that I think about it, love 'em or hate 'em, Bauhaus were one band you couldn't really get away from at the time. I think if you asked anyone at the time they would've had some sort of opinion on the band, good or bad. Which ultimately is a good thing.
Check their website for upcoming tour dates...they're playing in New York in November as part of a full-on US tour.
