His background is really interesting to me...he came up in London thru the underground when it really was underground in the 1960's...the formative years of the counter culture. He had a band called the Deviants (perhaps the UK equivalent of the MC5?), worked for the International Times (I.T. for short), and also was involved in a lot of the psych rock shows/happenings that were so prevalent at the time...these included early shows by Pink Floyd and the like at places like the Roundhouse. His main success however, has been a science fiction writer, but I have never read any of these titles. There's a LOT more to the story than this obviously but this is what initially drew me towards...
He has a fantastic book of memoirs available called Give the Anarchist A Cigarette which I highly recommend (yet to be published in the US as far as I know). It looks like this:
He's insightful, especially funny, and most importantly was there when it happened! Besides all of this, he always had an amazing head of hair.
And if you're interested in the time frame, and subject matter, I also recommend In The Sixties by Farren associate, Barry Miles. Like Anarchist, you'll be hitting Amazon.co.uk for this one as well. It looks like this:
