Props to Unpopular for noticing the copy of Felt's "Index" that I posted a few days ago. Turns out he has a copy although his doesn't seem to be stapled.
Ah but what about the Versatile Newts 7" Owners Club? There are even fewer copies of that left and most people don't even know it's Lawrence. Mind you THAT has got the worst sleeve EVER!
The true story is somewhat different though. They were, of course, already Felt by this time. But Lawrence wanted Shanghai to be a label like Motown with more than one act so they (mostly he) masqueraded as the Versatile Newts on this record. When things started taking off as Felt Lawrence got panicky about the Versatile Newts not being the coolest of excusions, so he persuaded Nick Gilbert to dump the unsold copies, and for many years it was just assumed the Versatile Newts was Nick. Funnily enough this bit got edited out of the sleevenotes for Absolute Classic Masterpieces. Hope that helps.

Post us a photo Kevin! How about a bio of the Newts while you're at it?
