Upcoming events

The fall has just begun and it's already shaping up to be an extremely busy season...what with books coming out, gigs, parties, and openings to attend. WFMU Fest takes over the Music Hall of Williamsburg (66 N. 6th Street, Brooklyn) this Thurs/Fri/Sat (October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd):

- Thursday October 1st: Krautrock pioneers Faust, with Cold Cave and Aluk Todolo opening
- Friday, October 2nd: Pissed Jeans, TV Ghost, Vee Dee, and Guinea Worms
- Saturday October 3rd: the return of No Wave legends Teenage Jesus and the Jerks plus NYC noisemongers Sightings, Drunkdriver, and Talk Normal

Tickets are available via the Music Hall of Williamsburg's site, at Other Music (15 E. 4th St, Manhattan), or at the Music Hall's box office the night of each show (pending availability). WFMU will not be broadcasting, so don't miss it.

Also, this weekend a conference, Lost New York, 1609-2009, will be held at NYU on 2-3 October 2009. All sessions are free and open to the public. Click the link for a full schedule. Appearances include most of our buddies in blog - Flaming Pablum, Bowery Boogie, Ephemeral New York, and Lost City. (Maybe I'll be asked to participate in something one these days, hint hint.)

On October 10, John Lurie will have an opening for a new art show showcasing a collection of oil on linen as well as water color on clay boards at the Fredericks & Freiser Gallery. The gallery is located at 536 West 24th St in Manhattan, and the opening goes from 6:00PM-8:00PM.

Also on October 10, there will be another conference at NYU which will put the spotlight on our beloved Arthur Russell, followed by a book launch & party for the upcoming bio by Tim Lawrence (he of the previously published, and terrific history of disco in New York City, Love Saves the Day). The book, Hold On to Your Dreams: Arthur Russell and the Downtown Music Scene, 1973-1992, will be available in November. A complete itinerary can be found at arthursymposium.blogspot.com.

WFMU's Record Fair happens October 23rd-25th at NYC's Metropolitan Pavilion (125 W. 18th St, New York).

Thanks for plugging the conference! If I don't catch you there maybe I'll run into you at the record fair. I tend to go at the end, when the dollar bins are lowered to a quarter!
