This week's edition of of the Stupefied Playlist© is brought to us by legendary LA punk rocker, Alice Bag. Arguably, Los Angeles could be credited with being at the forefront when it came to a musical movement known for being (mostly) equal opportunity. Go ahead and name the bands - the Alley Cats, X, Alice's very own Bags, the Go Go's, the Germs, 45 Grave, Legal Weapon, and others I'm sure, all had prominent female members if they weren't fronted by women. And Alice has always been in the thick of it.
A vocal defender of women's (and human) rights, Alice is still an active performer and writer. Her recent memoir, Violence Girl: East L.A. Rage to Hollywood Stage/A Chicana Punk Story, tells the fantastic & true story of growing up in East LA during the sixties & seventies, and is well worth a read. Visit her sites below, check out her work, and go see her if she's playing a gig near you.
