Along with the always lovely Holly George Warren, I was lucky enough to catch Graham Nash tonight at Levon Helm's place tonight. Along with guitarist Shane Fontayne, Mr. Nash looked & sounded terrific playing a career spanning two sets.

Movie of the Week: Garth Hudson Returns to Big Pink After 46 Years with Rolling Stone

The new Basement Tapes

Its not not often I get to tip my cap to Rolling Stone magazine, but in this case I definitely have to. This short film of instrumentalist, Garth Hudson (who still lives in the area), returning to the house where he was a part of rock mythology with his fellow members of The Band and Bob Dylan, is a gorgeous & touching piece of work. 

The house itself, located between Woodstock & Saugerties in New York State, about 100 miles from New York City, is really nothing to look at. Every time I've ever taken someone to see it, I always feel like its a bit anti-climactic. Its really just another somewhat run down house in the woods. The interior looks much better than I imagined seeing it through the camera lens, and with some music flowing through it, it becomes a magical place.

Event of Note: Barney Hoskyns reading in Woodstock, NY, this weekend

No stranger to Woodstock, NY, Rock's Back Pages very own Barney Hoskyns will be in town this weekend to do a reading and Q&A at The Golden Notebook. In town researching a book on the history of the scene in Woodstock, Hoskyns' past titles include books on The Band, Led Zeppelin, Laurel Canyon & Los Angeles, Tom Waits, and several others.

The reading will take place at 3:00PM on Oct. 13.

Now on at the Ai Earthling Gallery in Woodstock, NY, there will be an opening party at the gallery on Saturday, 10/5, for the show No Wave Heroes. The show features the pop art of Bob Bert, conceptual photography of Pat Place, mixed media collage on manuscript paper edited from Richard Boch's forthcoming book about life downtown circa late 70's/early 80's with the Mudd Club at the heart of the scene, and films by Tommy Turner.
