Movie of the Week: The Blank Generation (1976)

I think I've run this before, but what the hell...its classic, and you can't go wrong with a music film that looks & sounds like a broadcast from another planet. As it says on IMDB: "The cream of New York new wave/punk filmed live at CBGB's when the scene was just beginning. Includes performances by Patti Smith, Blondie, Television, the Ramones, Talking Heads, the Heartbreakers, the Shirts, Wayne County, the Marbles, the Dolls, Miamis, Harry Toledo, and the Tuff Darts (w/Robert Gordon)."

Now on at Gallery 98 Bowery: No Wave Films, 1976 - 1985

Just in from Marc Miller at 98 Bowery:

NO WAVE AND INDEPENDENT FILM, 1976-1985 - AN EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND EPHEMERA

Films by:  Amos Poe ~ Scott B & Beth B ~ Charlie Ahearn ~ Richard Kern ~ Gordon Stevenson

Because the photos were intended as advertisement, they effectively capture the essence of the films; and, in most cases, the filmmakers were themselves involved in the making and selection of the still images.  These stills stand on their own, not only as vivid reflections of the films but also of the broader 1970s zeitgeist that the films consciously sought to embody.

See the online exhibition, and much more, only at http://gallery.98bowery.com/
