Reissues of Note: Liquid Liquid and Comsat Angels

Good news for fans of post punk-era music. Two of my favorite bands have recently announced catalog reissues of (mostly) hard to find and (sometimes) expensive titles.

First up is a beautiful vinyl bundle of Liquid Liquid EP's from Superior Viaduct. The package includes the self-titled EP (sometimes referred to as GroupMeGroup), the Optimo EP, and the Successive Reflexes EP. But the real treasure here is the fourth title in the bundle - an LP of the pre-Liquid Liquid projects: Liquid Idiot and the Idiot Orchestra. This is real holy grail-type material for Liquid Liquid fans. The set is supposed to be available in June, but you can pre-order it now for a very reasonable $50 plus shipping.

Here's a nice little sampler to whet your appetite:

In other news, although lacking in details, the Comsat Angels have announced a catalog reissue program via the UK Edsel label. It seems as if it's going to be CD-only, but its better than nothing since the Renascent reissues have been out of print for quite some time now. If you're a fan of Bunnymen/early U2/Teardrop Explodes/the Sound - the Comsat Angels would fit very nicely in your collection. Click that link above for more info.

Surprise reunions for 2009

I was recently surprised to find out that Magazine will be reuniting for 2 gigs in February 2009. I'm still not sure who will be taking guitarist John McGeoch's place, but if I lived near London or Manchester I would definitey be buying tickets for this.

Visit the official Magazine myspace.
Visit Shot By Both Sides - an excellent Magazine fansite.

Also, although I don't think its been announced yet, I've heard from a very good source that the Comsat Angels will be playing some reunion shows in the UK as well.

Missing In Action

Thought of the day: "Missing In Action" by the Comsat Angels:

Hello daily life
I don't want to fight today
I surrender
I'll put my toys away
No aliens came
I lost my little light
It was so well explained
Now I'm getting older as I write
What's that sound?
What's that light?
What's that sound?
Missing in action
What's that light?
Missing in action
Lost in the last attack
Lost in the last attack
Lost in the last attack
Lost in the last attack
One childhood
The little kid retired
He surrendered
His parking space expired
Wave bye-bye
Ghost writer in the sky
He'll see you soon
Now I'm getting older as I write
What's that sound?
What's that light?
What's that sound?
Missing in action
What's that light?
Missing in action
Lost in the last attack
Lost in the last attack
Lost in the last attack
Lost in the last attack
