I've had a couple of updates recently from Marc Miller at 98 Bowery/Gallery 98.

"SOUL CITY," 1977-79
Gallery 98 is pleased to present ten of the original, hand-colored, hand-cut photographs that M. Henry Jones created for his legendary animated film “Soul City.” Working in the late 1970s, before the widespread use of computers, digitization, and tools like Photoshop, Jones could only achieve his special effects through tedious analog techniques. It took him nearly two years but there was an unexpected bonus: a remarkable collection of original manipulated photographic prints that stand on there own merits as a compelling artistic record of creative toils that preceded the digital revolution.

When Anton Van Dalen began using stencils in 1980 it affected both his style and subject matter. He had to keep his images simple and working in public spaces encouraged a social art inspired by his Lower East Side neighborhood.
“The Shooting Gallery” connects Ronald Reagan’s aggressive militarism with a desolate cityscape of abandoned cars, guard dogs and rampant drugs. Van Dalen made this silkscreen in 1982 at the Lower East Side Printshop when it was still a small community based storefront. Some copies were printed on cheap paper and wheat-pasted around the East Village; others were silkscreened on heavy archival stock and signed by the artist.
