Binky Philips featured in May issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine

Friend of the blog, Binky Philips (a man not above some self-promotion), is being featured in the current issue of Vintage Guitar magazine, along with a swell cover story on Mike Bloomfield. Binky has one of the better vintage guitar collections I've ever seen, and its definitely worth a look. Vintage Guitar is currently making things free to see/read digitally, starting with this this issue. Click the link below to read it, or pick an actual copy up at Barnes & Noble, Guitar Center, or your local guitar shop.

Wah wah

There's an interesting article this morning in the NY Times on the man who invented the wah wah pedal...that effect sound control for the guitar with the unmistakable sound. With a flip of a knob, Del Casher heard the future...

"DEL CASHER has done a lot of impressive things with his guitar over the last 50 years. He has performed with Gene Autry, Lawrence Welk, and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. He’s appeared, strumming, in movies with Elvis Presley and Jerry Lewis. He’s been a featured player on dozens of film and TV soundtracks.

But there is one accomplishment that Mr. Casher, now 73, wishes more people knew about: his role in the invention of the wah-wah pedal." Continued here.

Here is the demo record mentioned in the article:

And here, The Electric Prunes endorse the Vox Wah Wah:
