The Ballad of Mott the Hoople

I had the opportunity to see the recent doc about Mott the Hoople last night at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center as part of the New York Film Festival. That's Ian Hunter over on the left during the Q&A following the film. Already available on DVD in the UK, it will reportedly be available in the US in November. Order it here.

I highly suggest seeing it if you need to be reminded how incredible a great rock 'n roll band can be. Apparently, I needed to be reminded. Just fantastic.

Read Larry Jaffee's memories of being a long time fan over at Rock's Back Pages.

New films alert: Mott The Hoople, and Lawrence of Belgravia

I'm always up for a decent rockumentary, and here are two to keep an eye out for. I apologize in avance for the lack of links or information on these. First up is The Ballad of Mott The Hoople. Its now available on DVD in the UK:

Secondly, we have Lawrence of Belgravia, about the one & only Lawrence of Felt/Denim/Go Kart Mozart fame. No trailer or website seems to be available, however for readers in London, the film will be showing as part of the BFI London Film Festival in October. Full details here.

Mott in America 1974

Here's some fantastic home-style footage shot by Mott the Hoople's Morgan Fisher on tour of the US in 1974. He has great things to say about the New York Dolls, and Leee Black Childers. Thanks to Its All the Streets for posting this! And yes Morgan, your "little 8mm film" does give us "a taste of what it was". Thank you!
