Wow...Sly Stone Interview

Stand
In the end you'll still be you
One that's done all the things you set out to do

Stand
There's a cross for you to bear
Things to go through if you're going anywhere

It seems he might really be on the way back. This month's Vanity Fair has a fantastic interview & story with the man himself.

Sly Stone's Higher Power
Sly Stone vanished into rumor in the 1980s, remembered only by the great songs ("I Want to Take You Higher," "Dance to the Music") he left behind. What's become of the funky leader of the Family Stone since he forsook his Woodstock-era utopianism for darkness, drugs, and isolation? After a few sightings—most notoriously at the 2006 Grammys—the author tracked the last of the rock recluses to a Bay Area biker shop, to scope out where Stone's been, where he's headed, and what's behind those shades.

Sly & the Family Stone box - buy it now

From the Village Voice, read about just how great the recent boxset reissue of the first 7 Sly Stone albums is. As overused a word as essential is, this is truly essential.

"A timely box set of seven remastered albums ranging from Sly and the Family Stone's 1967 debut A Whole New Thing to the '74 last gasp Small Talk, this anthology, with the usual accompaniment of fawning liners, rare pics, and B sides, provides detailed blueprints on how to construct a dirty-funk bomb."
