Two new digital music stores have popped up very recently that I wanted to mention. Our friends over at Other Music have entered the digital fray, and are the first of all my record store friends to do so. They've done a great job on the physical and mail order fronts for years, and I expect they'll do well with digital as well. From the looks of it, it seems like they've gotten off to a good start...if you've ever been to the store or the regular website, you know what a great selection of music they have.
Also starting up with downloads is relative newcomer, Wolfgang's Vault. This site was started by some people who had bought the Bill Graham/Fillmore/Winterland collection/estate (or something like that). Up until recently, one has been able to buy original show posters, and other memorabilia, as well as stream amazing concerts as played by a wide array of artists at various Bill Graham-related venues from the 60's thru the 80's, or so. They recently were having some trouble with some artists having a big problem with their shows merely being streamed. Perhaps things are worked out, at least with some of the artists. Despite their offerings being somewhat limited so far, I have a feeling they're just getting started. And what is great about this digital store is that the vast majority of these recordings have only ever been available on bootleg recordings if at all.
