Fantabulous New York Rock Party, New York, May 30, 1976

Here's a poster for an event I've never heard of before - the Fantabulous New York Rock Party - which took place at the Manhattan Center (which is still there) in New York on May 30, 1976. According to the site where this image is from, and this poster is available to purchase, this was a benefit for Wayne County, as well as quite an interesting mix of the (then) old school & present school of the downtown/art/music scene in New York. Nightclubbing with the Stillettos

This week's edition of Pat Ivers and Emily Armstrong's Nightclubbing column on the East Village Local concerns an early band on the CBGB scene - Stillettos Fads, or as they are more commonly referred to, The Stillettos...you know, the band Debbie Harry was in before Blondie. The band also included Tish & Snooky, the sisters who would go on to found the Manic Panic empire, as well as become an important part of the comedy band, Sic F*cks.


"In the beginning, there was the Stillettos: Debbie Harry, Elda Stilletto and Roseanne Ross. As flashy and trashy as glam bands got, they played CBGBs so early in the game that the Ramones opened for them. By 1975, Debbie Harry had gone on to form Blondie. Elda transformed the Stillettos into the Stilletto Fads, with Tish and Snooky Bellomo as back up singers." Continued here.

Punk in Woodstock - Eileen Polk photography on display thru July 1

If you happen to be passing through the town of Woodstock NY between now and July 1, I wanted to mention a very cool photo exhibit at a gallery in town called Ai Earthling at 69 Tinker Street. A relatively new establishment, Ai Earthling is making an impressive effort to bring some downtown attitude & history to the famous hippie district (thanks Richard!).

The first show is by famed NY-punk photographer Eileen Polk, and next on the schedule is NYC hip hop's own Ricky Powell. The prices are extremely reasonable & there is plenty to see for a gallery on the smaller side.

NYNS - Hello Michael Des Barres

Previously on the New York York Nobody Sings: Future actor Michael Des Barres squawks about that oh-so-seventies rock subject, life on the road, on "Hello New York," the opening track from Silverhead's second album, 16 and Savaged. The short lived glam-ish, hard rock band also included future Blondie bassist, Nigel Harrison.
