This one goes out the goth's, and the goth's at heart. In 1983, hot London club night of the time, The Batcave, hosted a night at Danceteria in NYC. Here is some suitably grainy footage from the night, featuring Jon & Ollie from Speciman, and the band, Sexbeat, along with all four(!) pages of the original invite. Movie of the Week: Play At Home Presents Siouxsie and the Banshees (1984)

Dating from 1984, this is certainly an oddity in the Banshees catalog. A made-for-British-TV special, just under an hour in length, Play At Home Presents Siouxsie and the Banshees features the band in a number of Alice In Wonderland themed situations, as well as some live performances, and includes appearances from Robert Smith who (as if he wasn't busy enough at the time) was part of the band at two different times.

Facing the Other Way: The Story of 4AD to be published in September

Facing the Other Way: The Story of 4AD, the first & only book on the legendary UK post punk label will be published in September, and is available for pre-order now.

Still operating today, the label was founded in 1979 by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent, and for much of its classic period (which was quite lengthy) the distinctive artwork by Vaughan Oliver pretty much defined the label. Luckily for us he designed the book cover as well. It's difficult to think about the great records by Cocteau Twins, Pixies, Throwing Muses, Dead Can Dance, and many others,  without remembering the entire package. And now we'll be able to read all about it!
