Punk Magazine Awards: October 13, 1978

John Holmstrom says, "Not only was it Friday the Thirteenth, but we even had the premonition to bill it as "A Titanic Evening!" right on the ticket – complete with a sinking ship and lifeboats.

Oh yeah. By then, we knew that PUNK magazine was going down for the third time, so we planned the whole thing to be our farewell. Disco was becoming really, really popular and everyone figured that PUNK WAS DEAD just because the Sex Pistols had broken up back in January. As if they had anything to do with punk rock in New York City, right?" Continued here.

Stupefied: The John Holmstrom Playlist

Holmstrom by Godlis

As mentioned several times recently, Punk Magazine co-founder, John Holmstrom, has been a very busy guy. This coming Friday, Jan. 11, he'll be at the Powerhouse Arena in Brooklyn signing copies of his new book, Punk: The Best of Punk Magazine. Click the invite on the left for the details. He came up with this week's edition of Stupefied, but not without letting me know that he could have come up with much, much more. And I don't doubt it!

Besides working on the book, Holmstrom has been consulting on the CBGB biopic which I'm guessing we'll start hearing a lot more about at some point this year. You can keep up with all related Holmstrom/Punk goings-on by visiting him here, and here.

Big thanks to John for the list!

The Best of Punk: John Holmstrom speaks

Punk Magazine co-founder, John Holmstrom, talks to Capital about the now iconic magazine & musical scene of the mid 70's.

"We were at the right place at the right time, and I knew it. There’d been a few articles about bands like Television and the Ramones, and CBGB’s was also just starting to take off. CBGB’s fascinated everyone at the time because it was on the Bowery. People were afraid to go there. There were bums drinking at the bar, begging for change outside. But we captured the moment..." Continued here.

Punk: The Best of Punk Magazine is available now.
There will be a launch party for the book
at Powerhouse Arena on January 11 from 6–8 p.m.
