In the Pocketbooth at Bad Boys

Godlis had some fun last week at the Marcia Resnick opening for Bad Boys. Read his summary of the evening, and dig the fun he had with the Pocketbooth photo app on his iPhone. That's Walter Steding on the left...more here.

Pictures On My Wall - Walter Steding

Walter Steding is long known to students of the New York downtown-era as a man about town. He worked for Warhol at the Union Square Factory. With his fiddle, he led the TV Party Orchestra for Glenn O'Brien. He co-starred in Downtown 81. He released records on the Red Star and Animal labels. He's a student of obscure history. He's written a musical. And the entire time he's never stopped painting. In fact, painting is probably the one thing he's always done consistently, and he's done quite well, thank you. He currently works away in his studio in Brooklyn. See a whole lot of his work at WalterSteding.com. Bonus points if you can identify the subject of the portrait at the top of this post.

Nothing at the Gershwin

"Nothing" is a conceptual musical by Walter Steding. There will be a performance next Tuesday, March 2, at the Gershwin Hotel at 7 East 27 Street. Per Walter's email, "the nature of 'being' or the human dilemma of an inability to express 'Not Being'. It's title is 'NOTHING' taken from Goethe, 'Well let us on! We'll plumb your deepest ground. For in your Nothing may the All be found.' Faust. From Parmenides through Boyle to the present the search for a vacuum continues. My approach is art."

The cover is $10.00, and some of Walter's artwork will be available to purchase as well. The Gershwin's website doesn't have any info listed about this event so you may want to call before heading over there: 212-545-8000.
