For Replacements fans: Color Me Obsessed coming on DVD

Its crazy that its been over two years since I first mentioned it here, but the Replacements documentary, Color Me Obsessed, is finally going to be released on DVD!

For a film about a band that doesn't include any music by it's subject, the filmmakers have managed to put together a compelling watch & thorough history of the Replacements. A definite surprise & well worth your time. The official release date is Nov. 20, and the movie includes appearances by Grant Hart & Greg Norton of Hüsker Dü, Tommy Ramone, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, the Goo Goo Dolls and many more.

The bonus material includes: Nineteen deleted scenes, three complete interviews (Grant Hart, Robert Christgau, Greg Kot & writer Jim DeRogitis), behind the scenes interviews with director and producer (Hansi Oppenheimer), two commentaries and four trailers!

Just Kids, Sunday reading

I can't recommend Patti Smith's Just Kidshighly enough. I finished it last night and absolutely fell in love. I have too many thoughts about it to get into here, but I will say that it touched me in many ways. And I've never been the biggest Patti Smith fan, but whenever I've given her the time, I don't regret it. For anyone interested in a post-Exploding Plastic Inevitable/pre-CBGB New York City this is a must-read.

I also wanted to point out several good articles that appear in today's edition of the NY Times:

- The T.A.M.I. Show is finally available legally again this Tuesday, and here's why you should make an effort to see it.
- Paul Westerberg shares a laugh with Alex Chilton.
- Charlie Gillett's obituary.

Replacements fans wanted

I wanted to let you know about a Replacements documentary that is currently being shot called Color Me Obsessed. The film makers are looking for pretty much anyone - fans, music industry folk, musicians - who were fans, to tell stories & discuss the band for the film. You can see more, including some clips, by clicking here. There is a contact link in the lower right corner of that homepage if you're interested in taking part. You can also find them on Facebook here.

They're nice guys and they'll probably come to you. I did it today in my apartment. They have travel plans for Minneapolis, and Los Angeles. For people who don't live in either of those places, or NYC, they also have plans to maybe set up some sort of internet video chat taping down the road. Drop 'em a note!
