THE SOUND - JEOPARDY + FROM THE LION’S MOUTH + ALL FALL DOWN + BBC LIVE IN CONCERT

•    This comprehensive 4CD box set presents the perfect opportunity to reappraise the career of The Sound – the frequently overlooked London quartet who could perhaps should have had an impact on the post-punk era on the level achieved by the likes of Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen or The Cure.

•    Across four CDs in wallets in a clamshell box are “Jeopardy”, “From The Lion’s Mouth” and “All Fall Down”, the three legend-enshrining LPs they recorded for Korova and WEA between 1980 and 1982. The albums are supplemented with rarities, b-sides, the recordings with Kevin Hewick, and BBC radio sessions. The fourth CD contains the BBC live in concert recordings.

•    Put together with input from band members Mike Dudley and Graham Bailey as well as Adrian Borland’s father Bob, the box also contains a 36 page booklet with annotation by Tim Peacock of Record Collector, as well as the lyrics and ephemera.

And lastly, but perhaps most importantly, there's going to be a documentary which is currently in a crowdfunding phase. Looking to be about 80 minutes long, the film is tentatively titled, "Walking In The Opposite Direction." A trailer is below, and more info can be found here, and on Facebook. Lets pray the filmmakers are able to complete & release the film!

In memory of Adrian Borland - gone 12 years today

6 December 1957 – 26 April 1999
Winter

I'D LIKE TO SLEEP ONE HUNDRED DAYS
MY FEELING HAS GONE, FLESH COLD AND NUMB
I'M STARING INTO WINTER
ALL'S SLOWING DOWN, SNOW IN THE WHEELS
FROST ON THE GROUND, ICE CUTS THE SEAL
THAT OPENS UP OLD WOUNDS
THAT LETS IN THE WINTER
MEMORIES AND HOPES ARE ALL THAT I HAVE
BUT ARE THEY ALL I NEED, WILL THEY SEE ME
THROUGH THIS WINTER?
I'D LIKE TO SLEEP ONE HUNDRED DAYS
MY REASON HAS GONE, FLESH COLD AND NUMB
AT LEAST LET ME SLEEP THROUGH THE WINTER

Total Recall

It's all such a blur when time goes so quickly
Trying to hang on to
The way that you'd like things to stay

You trace back the seconds
Recall the details
From someone will, to someone does
To someone did, you know I did

Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see a distant victory
A time when you will be with me

You cut me off just as I was starting to speak
The language you keep hidden away
It's just like the question on everyone's lips

But it's not on mine
Where all you'll find is a twisted smile
From another time

Another time, another time
Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see a distant victory
A time when you will be with me...

Another time, another time
Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see a distant victory
A time when you will be with me

There'd be another time, another time
Oh there must be a hole in your memory
But I can see
I can see a distant victory
A time when you will be with me

I can see but there's got to be another time
It's got to be...

All around excellent blog, Egg City Radio, has posted a great live set from the Sound from 1984. It doesn't have any more specifics than that but get on over there & download it!

Adrian Borland & the Sound

Here's a great little video history of one of my all time favorites, Adrian Borland & the Sound. Adrian was an amazingly sensitive soul who never got the commercial attention he should have as a recording artist, but in the way all of the best cult artists do, he'll always have an extremely special place in the hearts of his fans & those who are lucky enough to hear his music. More than many others, his music encapsulates (and articulates) what my (and a small group of friends) love of music has always been...this is The Sound:

Listen to Party of the Mind, Total Recall, and Sense of Purpose by the Sound.

PARTY OF MY MIND

I invite you to the party of my mind
An invitation to the party of my mind

Some talk, some laugh
Some go out for air
In the party of my mind
They'll all be there
All my friends will be there
In the party of my mind

There's a room for us
In the party of my mind
A place to be, a place to be found
A room without light
A room whith lights that blind
These ideas I invite
To the party of my mind

Won't you come in and invite love
Won't you come in, invite your anarchist friend
Won't you come in, anything can happen
Won't you come in, stay till the end

There's a disturbance over by the stairs
And her face looks round for me
Her eyes say something's going wrong
Some things aren't how they should be

I invite you to the party of my mind
An invitation to the party of my mind

Some talk, some laugh
Some go out for air
In the party of my mind
We'll all be there
Everyone will be there
Everyone will be there
