Robert Aaron in todays NY Times, plus recent WHITE HOT live footage of James Chance
“At some level it’s like the Salem witch trials,” he said. “You can’t have a witch hunt without a witch. I’m just unlucky enough to be the guy. You gotta have a human sacrifice, and that’s what I am.” - Robert Aaron in today's NY Times.
The NY Times published an excellent article today on James' close associate, Robert Aaron. It includes some quotes from James, and we suggest you read it.
And speaking of Robert Aaron, check out this shit-hot band, including Aaron, performing with James recently at the Cutting Room! As always, keep up with James Chance news via his website or on Facebook.

Bar Redux: New Caribbean-Creole restaurant Coming to NOLA soon!
If you or anyone you know frequents New Orleans, I have a great friend who is on the verge of opening a bar/restaurant there called Bar Redux. Its described as Carribean-Creole, and will be opening very this month. Please take a moment to check out the links, and please like, and follow where applicable. And if you happen to make it there, tell 'em Karate Boogaloo sent you!
Bar Redux links:
MUCH MORE TO COME and thanks!
The restaurant - which is located in the Bywater downtown area of New Orleans, will feature local creole cuisine as well as selections from a varied Caribbean menu. We will be featuring specials from many of the islands of the Caribbean.
The theme of the place will be art and music centric. There will be local artists showing, as well as live local music. We have a gorgeous outdoor patio area that has a small stage area, and some nice landscaping. A place to relax, sip a mint julep, and listen the heartbeat of New Orleans!
Inside you’ll find a seductively lit bar area dominated by the infamous Arones U-shaped bar from Minneapolis, MN. This prohibition era-bar was frequented by all the area bootleggers of the day due to it’s proximity to Canada and all that fine hooch. Kid Caan and Alvin Karpus have actually bent elbows at this unique deco bar!
Just follow the bright red neon BAR sign mounted on the corner of the building and find your way in. By the way, the sign (like the bar) was also in front of Joe Arones’s place. Makes you wonder what conversations might have taken place under its crimson glow.
See you in the Bywater!

Movie of the Week: The Blank Generation (1976)
I think I've run this before, but what the hell...its classic, and you can't go wrong with a music film that looks & sounds like a broadcast from another planet. As it says on IMDB: "The cream of New York new wave/punk filmed live at CBGB's when the scene
was just beginning. Includes performances by Patti Smith, Blondie,
Television, the Ramones, Talking Heads, the Heartbreakers, the Shirts,
Wayne County, the Marbles, the Dolls, Miamis, Harry Toledo, and the Tuff
Darts (w/Robert Gordon)."

Movie of the Week: Who Is Tony Wilson?

Who Is Tony Wilson? was made by Steven Lomas, and features contributions by Kevin Cummins, Dave Haslam and Martin Moscrop. Hat tip to Cerysmatic Factory for this one.
New Book Alert: Beauty Lies in the Eye by Catherine Ceresole
Swiss photographer, Catherine Ceresole, has a new book out documenting the no wave/art damage/noise scene of the late 70's and into the 80's in New York City. Entitled Beauty Lies in the Eye it includes artists such as Sonic Youth, Lydia Lunch, Glenn Branca, Arto Lindsay, Christian Marclay, the Beastie Boys and many others. And it also includes writing from Christian Marclay, Thurston Moore, Rhys Chatham, Mark Cunningham, Lee
Ranaldo, Alan Licht, and a conversation between Catherine Ceresole and
Emmanuel Grandjean, along with Nicolas Ceresole and Francis Baudevin.
For more information, check out the book's page on Amazon, or visit the publishers website.
p.s. I think the young Thurston Moore and a young Wes Anderson make for a good case of "Separated at birth?"

Keep It Under 45: Sean's Music Check-In
Sean Rutkowski checks in with the latest edition of Keep It Under 45 and keeps us contemporary.

Goodbye Quarter 1 and now we enter Quarter 2 of 2014.
Looks
like spring is here to stay in Atlanta as we have had multiple days in a
row over 70 degrees. I anticipate the explosion of pollen to happen
any week now.
MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA
I
have been a fan of this Atlanta band since their first album. The new
album, "Cope" is more raw than their previous few which I like. It
came out yesterday but I have already have listened to it about 3 times
through-which is rare.

METALLICA
Despite
their complete lack of self awareness, being an 80's metal kid, I still
have a soft spot in my heart for Metallica. Whenever I begin to give
up on them, Metallica seems to suck me back in with a solid cover. This
is no different, for the new Ronnie James Dio tribute album they did a
great melody of Rainbow songs during the Dio years.

TEMPLES
I am a little late to the party on this one but if you like Tame Impala this English band is definitely worth checking out.

DEAN WAREHAM
Surprisingly
this is Dean Wareham from Galaxie 500 & Luna's first proper full
length solo album. It is exactly what you would expect and that isn't a
bad thing at all. A bunch of tracks were produced by Jim James of My
Morning Jacket. This is my favorite track so far.
Audio - "Love Is Not A Roof Against The Rain" http://bit.ly/1lneunz
MILO & OTIS
I
just stumbled upon this track today from Chicago alternative R&B
duo. This song is all about texture and mood. Very Bon Iverish
Audio - "Neighbors" http://bit. ly/QFMWQt
YOUNG THUG
There
isn't any upcoming artist that seems to be getting more press than
Young Thug and a lot of it has nothing to do with his music. The
mixtape "Black Portland" came out a few months ago but I have found
myself going back to this particular track mainly for it's weird
melodies. There isn't anything out there like it and no matter what
you think about this song you will find it sticking in your head like
that last bit of peanut butter in the jar.
Audio - "Florida Water" http://bit.ly/1s83K0o
AVA LUNA
After
making you listen to Young Thug, I figured I should take it back a few
notches for you. This track is a nice laid back treat. If you like
this song, you should note the album often goes in a few different
directions including sounding like Gang Of Four or Wire.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE
I found this site that had some interesting things done with cassettes http://bit.ly/QFMYYl
The whole site is pretty great if you are into art & design http://bit.ly/1hhGPGW
I hope you all have a great week!
