Fleet Foxes - new album & download

The Fleet Foxes announced a new album, Helplessness Blues, and tour today. The album will be released on May 2 in the UK, and May 3 in the US. To celebrate they're offering the album title track for streaming/download via their website. Have a listen:

Dangerous Minds reminds us of the great BBC doc about Rough Trade Records, "Do It Yourself: The Story of Rough Trade Records." Some of you may remember me posting about this last year.

Fleet Foxes: White Winter Hymnal (video)

I first heard these guys towards the end of last summer when they were still looking for a record deal before signing to Sub Pop. This song was on the tapes I heard as well as being on their myspace page, and it immediately struck me - the harmonies, the melody and most of all the Spector-ish arrangement. It sounded, and still sounds like no one else right now which is really attractive to me. As for the video, I have to say I'm a wee bit disappointed...it's cute but I was hoping for something a little grander.

South By Southwest, Part 7

Probably my two fave new bands that I saw in Austin...

Fleet Foxes. Newly signed to Sub Pop, these guys should have an album out in June. They're a bunch of beardy, hippie kids from Washington state who write beautiful melodies and don't sound a little unlike Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. It's nice to know some kids know what harmony is. I hope they stick around for a while. They're capable of some great things.





New Bloods. Another band from the great northwest, this trio of young ladies hails from Portland, Oregon. Very reminiscent of the Raincoats, if you're nostalgic for that late 70's/early 80's post punk, raw Rough Trade sound, these guys are for you. I love 'em. Debut album comes soon on Kill Rock Stars.
