Movie of the Week: Charlie Is My Darling (1965 / 2012)
I wrote about this film when it was first released a couple of years ago. If you have not seen it yet, now is the time to remedy that. And watch it soon here before it gets taken down! Visit the official website here, and buy the DVD here. And hey, my friend Teri won a grammy for her incredible work on the sound mix for this! Huzzah!

War, children...
Courtesy of Ed Ward comes this fantastic scan of a rare teaser ad for the then newly formed Rolling Stones Records. It appeared on the full page 21 of the April 19, 1971, issue of Rolling Stone magazine. If anyone knows who shot the photo any info would be appreciated.

Stupefied: The Andrew Loog Oldham Playlist
Publishing these Stupefied playlists every week just keeps getting better and better. This week, in honor of my interview with him published at Perfect Sound Forever last week, I'm particularly proud to present a playlist from Andrew Loog Oldham. Its not often that you can say an iconic rock & roll band's manager was (or is) as iconic as the band themselves, but in this case its true. If Ian Stewart was "the sixth Stone," then Oldham has the to be the seventh. If not the the sixth and a half.
These days, Oldham has a widely listened to radio show on the Underground Garage channel of Sirius XM satellite radio. He has also published several autobiographical books over the last bunch of years that include Stoned, 2 Stoned, Rolling Stoned (a compendium of sorts of Stoned and 2 Stoned), and Stone Free - a book that takes a look at why he did what he did in the first place, as well as his influences. See them all here.
Lastly, he's recently resurrected the Andrew Oldham Orchestra to record ...Play The Rolling Stones Songbook, Volume 2 which will be released in March. Originally started as a studio side project in the mid sixties, the "orchestra" released four albums of instrumental cover versions - the best known being The Rolling Stones Songbook. Guests on the new release include Gary Lucas, Elliot Easton, Christine Ohlman, Vashti Bunyan, Rafael Atijas, Ché Aimee Dorval, the High Dials, Johnny Marr, Juan Galeano, Pablo Memi, The Chesterfield Kings, and Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals.
...And with that...I give to you...The Andrew Loog Oldham playlist!

Andrew Loog Oldham speaks...We should all listen
The legendary Andrew Loog Oldham was kind enough to spend some time answering a few questions of mine recently for Perfect Sound Forever. Read the interview in full here.
PSF: What advice would you give a young ALO today?
ALO: Fall in love with the game, be ready to get fucked, get up
again, rub away the dirt and the pain and get back into the ring again.
Most people are in the business for the wrong reasons; it only works if
you are with the right act. Simple as that. Fuck the naysayers, fuck the
experts. Believe in your truth and work it. Make sure the reward is in
the minute of doing the work and not in the minutes you'd like to be
applauded. Fatal – can easily remove the kill.
And be sure to tune in next Tuesday when we have the ALO edition of the Stupefied playlist!
