I'd like to thank each & every one of you for reading Stupefaction, and want to extend a happy & healthy new year greeting for 2010 to you & yours! Now, where can I get a pair of Woody Woodpecker slippers?

Rowland S. Howard - RIP. Why is this time of year always so tough with news like this?

Very recently confirmed, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings will play next Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Brooklyn Bowl.
If you haven't seen the Anvil movie yet do not wait another second. Whether or not you're into heavy metal music is completely besides the point. I watched it for the second time last night and just can't recommend it enough. Talk about sticking to your guns, self belief, not giving up...knowing whats important in life...these guys are it. It's a completely inspirational story. It's also funny as hell. Sort of a real life Spinal Tap in some respects.

"The Beat Hotel, a new film by Documentary Arts, goes deep into the legacy of the American Beats in Paris during the heady years between 1957 and 1963, when Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlovsky and Gregory Corso fled the obscenity trials in the United States surrounding the publication of Ginsberg’s poem Howl. They took refuge in a cheap no-name hotel they had heard about at 9, Rue Git le Coeur and were soon joined by William Burroughs, Ian Somerville, Brion Gysin, and others from England and elsewhere in Europe, seeking out the “freedom” that the Latin Quarter of Paris might provide."
Visit the film's official website here. Read the book by Barry Miles: The Beat Hotel: Ginsberg, Burroughs & Corso in Paris, 1957-1963
Word has it (although I'm not sure how reliable it is) that Sex Pistol's bassist & songwriter, Glen Matlock, will be playing an acoustic gig at the tiny Nublu on Avenue C between 4th & 5th Streets next Friday, Dec. 11. I've sent a note to the man himself - we'll see what he says. Stranger things have happened. According to his website, he is out & about doing acoustic shows and will be in Canada just prior to the 11th.

Besides the club, there is also the very groovy Blow Up record label. In fact, they put out one of my all time favorite compilations, Blow Up A-Go-Go!: Dancefloor Classics From The Legendary Blow Up Club
